| Precious Pets' HOMECARE was established on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast in 2006 by Abby Tomkinson. She wanted to provide pet owners with an alternative option for the care of their animals while their owners were away from home. |

DIRECTOR'S HISTORYAbby has always been surrounded by animals.“That is what happens when you take home all the strays!!”, Abby says. “I was lucky enough to have horses, cats and dogs. Not counting the sick magpies or blue tongue lizards. “In 1990 I started volunteering at a veterinary clinic on weekends whilst still in high school. After completing Year 12, I went to work at Morwell Veterinary Clinic, which specialised in small animals & native wildlife. While working there I gained my qualifications in Veterinary Nursing. My mentor was John Butler, who worked so hard to save the lives of so many animals during the bush fires in Victoria in 2011.” Abby has spent some time as a jillaroo in outback NSW (near Tamworth), mustering sheep and cattle, fixing fences, drenching & branding along the way. She then moved to the 'big smoke', Sydney, where she worked for a number of years as a ‘strapper’ and ‘work rider’ for racehorse trainer Clarry Connors. For the last 5 (nearly 6) years, Abby has been working for a local veterinary clinic, while also establishing and running Precious Pets' HOMECARE. What’s happening now? Abby explains, “Currently, in addition to my beautiful children, I am living with our two beautiful border collies, Eddie and Coral, and two tropical aquariums with my favourite types of fish - loaches and tetras.” |
